BBF Beauty Blog has just moved to a new site but still retains the same quality beauty product reviews and makeup tips, so do check them out! BFF Beauty Girls (Jenni & Kristin) love to wear makeup products that emphasize their natural features for an effortless ‘barely there’ fresh-faced look. One of the best ‘beauty tricks’ in order to achieve this fresh-faced look is to highlight the face where the sun would naturally hit it. Today I’m very excited to share with you one of my absolute favorite highlighting beauty tools, from my absolute favorite makeup brand. The Eyes Wide Open Brightening Duo from Rouge Bunny Rouge is an amazingly effective and refreshingly convenient double-sided highlighting pencil, which can be used on the eyes as well as around the face. This brightening & highlighting tutorial is focused on achieving an everyday casual look, by highlighting your face for a light reflecting radiance. To compliment the highlights I will also be using two soft, subtle and beautiful neutral toned eye shadows, also from Rouge Bunny Rouge. OK here we go… After you’ve evened-out your skin tone with foundation, tinted moisturizer, powder etc. It’s time to begin highlighting! Below is a simple diagram that outlines the areas on the eyes and around the face that I’ll be highlighting with the pencil today… But before I begin using the duo highlighting pencil, I always make sure it’s sharpened, so I can be as precise as possible on the eyes. I love to use this Trio Pencil Sharpener from Rouge Bunny Rouge because it allows you to sharpen three sizes of pencil; slim, medium and chubby. Step-by-step highlighting guide: Using the PEARLESCENT MILKY SIDE around the eyes (steps 1- 4) Step 1: Place a small amount of the pearlescent, milky white color at the inner and outer corners of your eyes and blend gently with your fingertips to brighten your eyes. Step 2: Apply under your eyebrows to reshape and lift them up for more vibrancy. Step 3: Add a hint above your eyebrows and blend thoroughly to the edges with your fingertips – all this helps to open and highlight the face. Step 4: Draw a line below your eyes and outline top edge of your cheekbones. Use your fingertips to dab the color across the line, and blend outwards to highlight your cheekbones. The trick to remember when blending in steps 3 & 4 (above eyebrows and top of cheek bones) is to create a backwards “C” around your eyes. This backward C trick will also create a better contour in the hollows of your cheeks where you can apply blush or bronzer. Using the PEARLESCENT MILKY SIDE on the face (steps 5-6) Step 5: Draw a thin vertical line in the middle of your nose to make it look thinner, and slightly shade the color outwards to the wing of the nose along the edges. A small amount blended into the tip of your nose will make it appear shorter. Step 6: Draw a small arrow just above the middle part of your upper lip “Cupid Bow,” and blend it in by ‘dotting’ it with your finger. Applying the EYE SHADOWS (steps 7-8) Step 7: Apply the pale powder-pink WHEN BIRDS ARE SINGING… Long-lasting Matt Eye Shadow in ‘Bashful Flamingo.’ This shade looks ultra natural and fresh on your eyes and can be applied easily with fingertips or a shader brush from the lash line up to the crease. Step 8: Apply the slightly darker color ‘Sweet Dust Seriema,’ a cool matte dusty mauve-taupe, along the crease line. Start at the outer corner of the eyes and blend it along the crease and upwards on the brow bone a bit. The key is to use soft colors and apply the shades strategically so that you create contrast with the highlighter. The picture below shows how stacking light and dark areas, emphasizes the highlights… Using the ROSE SIDE of the Brightening Duo (Step 9) Step 9: The soft and luxurious hues of the Brightening Liner Duo rose side, make your eyes look instantly wide-awake when applied on the waterline. This light rose veil looks more natural on the inner lid, especially for day make-up. Apply a thin line to the upper and lower inner lids – this will open your eyes, making them more striking and noticeable. Lastly, make sure you curl your lashes and apply a little mascara If you have thin lashes, you may want to use a dark brown liner, drawing a thin line just above the upper lash line. All finished! Lets take one last look at what was applied on and around the eyes… Your Eyes Wide Open should look something like this… And finally, our completed ‘fresh-faced’ natural makeup look, using the Eyes Wide Open Brightening Duo on the eyes and around the face… We hope you enjoyed this tutorial. We had so much fun working with our new BFF’s at Makeupmew.com to create it for you, and look forward to doing more reviews/tutorials in the future!
